It began as a ball point pen drawing in a sketchbook. Then I scanned the drawing into my computer, and started using my Wacom drawing tablet (imagine a wireless mouse shaped like a pen that is pressure sensitive) to clean up the image and add detail in Adobe Photoshop. After a few days of working, I knew I was onto something. Then I began saving the drawing as a new file every time I worked on it (ex: facemelt01, facemelt02, facemelt03, etc..) so I could go back and see all the previous steps I had taken. Then I printed all the work iterations into a book to go with the final drawing. The final print size ended up being 3 by 4 feet.

The book is a visual record of my creative process in the making of the drawing Facemelt. I began the piece in the fall of 2006 and printed the final version in the spring of 2007. Each of the 112 pages in this book is different, (the front and back of each page is the same) with each page representing one work session (approx 3-5 hours). The book is 8.5"x11" and beautifully soft bound. I sign each one on the final version (last page).
